MIRROR MILLENNIUM GARDENS,
PROMENADE WAY, BRIGHTLINGSEA.
OFFICIAL OPENING 29th MAY
2000
The Brightlingsea Western Promenade Enhancement Group has secured a £15,000
grant from the Tendring Tourism Group towards the creation of a Mirror Millennium Garden
on the Western Promenade situated between the Haven Chalet Park and the skateboard
amenities. The garden, covering a ¼ of an acre will be screened from the skateboard area
by fencing and shrubs and will include picnic areas with seating, a barbeque area plus a
play area for children which will include huge logs for children to climb over. Two copses
will be planted along with a millennium oak tree encircled by seating. In addition, a
local media artist, Zoe Redfearn is co-ordinating with A level students from The Colne
Community School to provide a community sculpture to be sited within the garden. The
garden will benefit the whole community and is an excellent way to celebrate the past
Maritime History and the Future of Brightlingsea as well as welcoming our European guests
visiting the Town next August for The European Mirror Dinghy Championships.
The grand opening will take place at Easter.
Councillor Jo Ruffell.
