Brightlingsea Town Report 2015/2016
As most of you now know I have stepped down as Chairman of
Brightlingsea Business Association after 28 years. We have to thank
Brian House for having the forethought to have a Business
Association in Brightlingsea and he organized a meeting where I was
made chairman. Obviously as this is my last Town Report I wish the
new organization well in keeping our shops full and carry on working
with Tendring & Brightlingsea Councils.
Over the last year we have continued to push for better signage to
show the Town Centre and Seafront, especially the Hard area and
Marina, all these help Tourism which has been paramount over the
last 28 years in helping trade succeed and keep our shops full.
Going back on history it may not be realized but the BBA and
Community Reach were responsible in obtaining the grant available
from EEDA for our Foot Ferry to Point Clear and East Mersea which we
handed over to the Harbour Commissioners to run. This has been very
successful and hopefully will continue.
We have been responsible over time to collate and produce leaflets
on www.brightlingsea-town.co.uk which are available to print off,
these include a new map of the Town which is useful for visitors.
These leaflets will be available for the foreseeable future courtesy
of David Newman.
We have during 2015 organized an Italian Market on two occasions,
one during the Summer and one on Late Night Shopping both of which
were successful in bringing people into Town. 2015’s Late Night
Shopping Event was attended by a lot more people than normal
according to the stewards. Charities, stalls and shops had a good
night with most reporting good trade.
To finish I wish the ‘New Organization’ all the very best and I hope
that they will work with Brightlingsea Hospice Support Group and St
James Church to organize the Light up a Life service which BBA have
held for many years.
