Lovers of horticulture are well
catered for in Brightlingsea with two societies devoted to those with green fingers, The
Brightlingsea and District Horticultural Society are long established and along with
the more recently formed Brightlingsea Gardening Club, are responsible for the organising
of the town's two main annual horticultural events.
The annual Open Show is held at the Community Centre and exhibits the best of local
produce and flowers as well as home made products and arts, The show is held on the August
Bank Holiday.
In recent years, the Open Gardens event
has also proved popular while at the same time raising funds for the St. Helena Hospice in Colchester. A number of
the town's gardens are opened for one weekend each year to the public. Transport is laid
on from the town centre
