Brightlingsea in Bloom
On the morning of Tuesday 16th
Sept Members of the In Bloom volunteer team set out in force, full of expectation
for the Anglia In Bloom 2003 Awards Ceremony at the Corn Exchange Ipswich -
and were not disappointed Our Town was once again
A Winner
Awarded
the Anglia In Bloom Trophy for Best Town
Due to changes in the population definition
Brightlingsea competed this year for the first time in the Town Category beating
Halstead, Sudbury, Maldon, Sandy, Woodbridge, Beccles and North Walsham!
Brightlingsea was also winner of the
" PREMIER GROUP 1 TROPHY "
Competed for by
all Anglia in Bloomers Winners of 2002

The Brightlingsea
In Bloom, Local In Bloom Competition Awards were held on the evening of Tues 16 Sept
with over 80 people attending for the presentation of trophies and certificates for
participation in the 2003 competitions. 68 certificates and many trophies were
presented including the Cinque Port Shield for most outstanding contribution to the
Towns In Bloom Project 2003.
This year awarded
to Cllr. Josephine Ruffell and Darren Barrenger.
It was certainly
an exciting and rewarding day.

by the Corporation of London, at the Historic London Guildhall in Honour of
The Royal
Horticultural Societys
Annual Britain in
Bloom Awards.
Presiding over
the occasion was
the Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of the City of London
Alderman Gavyn Arthur
The In Bloom Team
were thrilled to receive the prestigious
RHS SILVER MEDAL
Awarded to our
town of Brightlingsea in the 2003 Small Town Category
The Awards were
presented by Monty Don
(Gardening writer and broadcaster)
A very memorable
occasion attended by over 400 representatives from across the British Isles.

continued enthusiastic support and sponsor ship making our In Bloom a
true Community Project

Brightlingsea was featured in the autumn issue of the Bloom Review
Community spirit
flourishing in Brightlingsea highlighting the wonderful participation across the
Community.
This magazine is
circulated countrywide all good for Brightlingsea!!

Hot off the Press!!
Brightlingsea having been invited by the RHS to
participate in the National Flower Bed Competition - Took up the challenge of competing
against the Municipal Borough Councils from across the country and on a shoestring budget
the team created their flowerbed of the theme
"Hidden Pearl of the Essex Coast"
Sun-Sea and Sand
The Result - Brightlingsea was awarded an RHS SILVER MEDAL
and in the post judging 'surgery' were informed at a SILVER achieved by volunteers was
equal to a Municipal Borough's DOUBLE GOLD!! A Great Compliment.
The project was taken on to promote the town and to
encourage much needed tourism and was sponsored by Brightlingsea Business Association,
Tendring Tourism Group and Brightlingsea Town Council.
