A Community Project, by the Community, for the Community

TENDRING'S PREMIER FLORAL TOWN

Here we are -halfway through another Blooming year
Busy.....Busy......Busy.....
The coffee morning and plant sale to raise funds for our Community Centre Gardens was extremely successful land a lovely sunny day. The funds are now flowers and features

A wonderful time was spend working within the grounds on a major project with the enthusiastic students of the Colne Community School and Valdosta City Schools Georgia USA - on their USA 2 UK
An International service learning exchange project.

The Community Centre Project and the wonderful mural now enhancing our seat shelter at Promenade Way - area lasting reminder of transatlantic friendship..
~ Blooming Great ~

Saturday 24th May - saw folks from far and wide enjoying the lovely atmosphere of that now "Hardy Annual" - The Plant and Garden Market - Organised by Brightlingsea In Bloom! Residents were tempted with a wonderful array of Horticultural delights - Many - with forethought - bringing a wheelbarrow to easily take their 'goodies' home!  All getting Brightlingsea Blooming

Springmead Garden Restoration Project
The hard landscaping of this wonderful and challenging project is now in place. The bones of garden now formed! But Oh! Those perennial weeds! How do you get rid of Mares' Tail?
The bridge over the stream is a wonderful place to stop for that much needed cup of coffee - and watch the newly hatched ducklings exploring their new world!!  Volunteers are always welcome to come and join in this project.  But not time to stop for long - Work to do!
The wonderfully energetic and enthusiastic team of bloomers have braved pouring rain and very hot days creating the town's summer displays for all to enjoy - Residents and Visitors.
Some 2000 volunteer hours have gone in the preparation and creation of the town's 2003 in Bloom.
Who needs to go to Exercise classes when there's blooming to do.
Here we are now -
Heading towards another year's Judging Deadlines for Anglia in Bloom
- sponsored by First Britain in Bloom - organised by the RHS
and this year - Sponsored by B & Q.
Judging time is near-
Please keep an eye open for any offending litter or weeds that could cost our town points!
How about that 1 extra pot of flowers or hanging basket in your front garden?
Make and elderly neighbours day -
Why not add an extra pot of flowers just for them?
Our thanks go to every one in the town for the wonderful and generous support that makes it a true all round community project helping our town
GO FOR GOLD

SPRINGMEAD GARDEN RESTORATION PROJECT

springmead1.jpg (1705125 bytes)

springmead2.jpg (1307068 bytes)With the enthusiastic help of the 3rd Brightlingsea Girl Guides we created 2.5 tonnes of wood chippings from Christmas trees re-cycled on a cold and frosty January weekend at Springmead.  Together with the Springmead house Captain Arthur Wenlock bequeathed this wonderful but neglected garden to the people of Brightlingsea in 1927.

An In Bloom offshoot, The Friends of Springmead, have successfully applied to the Countryside Agency and the East of England Development Agency for grants to provide the necessary funding to enable a major restoration to be carried out to create a quiet public garden for all to enjoy.

Within the grounds a spring still rises and flows down through the town to feed our nationally protected Site of Special Scientific Interest.  (Hence Springmead, Spring Chase and Spring Road.)  The spring was once the water supply for the inhabitants of a Roman villa that lay just outside the Springmead boundary.

THE BLOOMIN’ DON’T STOP!

Spring is just around the corner and the bulb planting that Bloomers undertook last autumn is already starting to provide carpets of colour to herald spring and lift the heart!
