Cinque Ports

A Community Project, by the Community, for the Community

2002 – WHAT A CHALLENGING AND REWARDING YEAR!

LOOKING BACK

With the enthusiastic participation of all sections of our community the town looked bloomin’ great.

Once again the dedicated team of volunteers excelled in planting, watering and maintaining the many and varied floral displays throughout the town.   Young people did their bit, planting school playgrounds, participating in National Tree Week and Big Garden Birdwatch, and litter-picking all round the town.  Voluntary organisations busily made their premises blossom.

Some of the judges' comments

ANGLIA            Yet again ALL the people of Brightlingsea have excelled.  There cannot be many other places where the spirit of In Bloom is stronger!  Private gardens, businesses, the police station, the schools and youth groups, excellent projects. It should be remembered that this is not a sleepy backwater, but a busy working town! Long may it continue to look so wonderful.

BRITAIN            Over recent years, this small town has undergone a remarkable change through the promotion of community and civic pride, primarily by the whole community's involvement in all the various aspects of the national 'In Bloom' campaign.

The town was presented to the judges at its very best with good standards of cleanliness, impressive quality floral displays and good community, environmental and recycling projects and initiatives.
